Obituary: Charles Jathanna (April 6, 1949 – October 9, 2024)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Charles Jathanna, aged 75, son of the late Yazer Jathanna, who peacefully went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2024. His remarkable life of faith, love, and service will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the community he served so faithfully.

Born on April 6, 1949, Mr. Jathanna lived a life filled with grace, strength, and dedication to his faith. A devoted member of CSI Christha Mahima Church in Manipura, he was a pillar of his community, known for his kind heart, unshakable faith, and unwavering commitment to those around him. His life embodied the words of Scripture: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Charles will be remembered not only for the love and devotion he showed to his family but also for his humility, wisdom, and generous spirit that touched so many lives. His faith in Christ was a guiding light throughout his life, and he remained steadfast in his belief, even during times of trial.

The mortal remains of Mr. Charles Jathanna will rest at his residence, “Eaden Villa,” located at 8th Cross Sarkarigudde, Shankerapura, Udupi, 574115. Family and friends are welcome to pay their last respects. The funeral cortege will depart from the residence at 10:00 AM on October 10, 2024, proceeding to CSI Christha Mahima Church in Manipura for a service at 10:30 AM, followed by the burial at the church cemetery.

In this time of sorrow, let us remember Charles for the love he shared, the faith he demonstrated, and the legacy of kindness and compassion he leaves behind. He has finished his race and is now in the presence of his Savior.

Obituary of Mr. Sarvothama Prakash Soans
27th October, 1972 – 30th September, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Sarvothama Prakash Soans, who entered eternal rest on the 30th of September, 2024, at the age of 52. Born to the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Suvasini Soans, he was a devoted husband to Sangeetha Soans and a loving father to Jossie Suprith Soans. Mr. Soans was a cherished family man, deeply rooted in his Christian faith and known for his dedication to those around him.

A member of CSI Sushanthi Church, Mercara Hill, Mr. Soans was an integral part of his spiritual community. He lived his life with faith and conviction, always supporting and uplifting those who were privileged to cross his path. His warm spirit and humble demeanor earned him the love and respect of many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The mortal remains of Mr. Soans will be brought to his residence at “Land Links Township,” 3rd Cross, Derebail Konchady, Mangalore, on the 2nd of October, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather at his residence to honor and celebrate his life. The funeral cortege will depart from the residence at 3:30 PM, proceeding to Gorigudda Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.

Rev. John J. Amanna
04th September 1948 – 26th September 2024

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rev. John J. Amanna on 26th September 2024, at the age of 76. A devoted man of God, Rev. Amanna was the beloved husband of Usha Amanna, a loving father to Jasmin Prathibha, and a proud grandfather to Pranith Shawn. His journey in this life was marked by unwavering faith, selfless service, and a deep love for his family and his community.

Rev. John J. Amanna’s ministry spanned several decades, during which he touched and transformed countless lives. He served faithfully in the UBM Mumbai Churches for over 25 years, dedicating his heart and soul to guiding and shepherding the congregation. Later, he extended his ministry to the DK and Udupi district Churches, where he continued his pastoral work for more than 13 years. His leadership was defined by compassion, humility, and an unshakable commitment to spreading the word of God. Through his sermons, counsel, and pastoral care, he became a pillar of strength to those in need and a beacon of hope for the many who turned to him for spiritual guidance.

In retirement, as a pastor of CSI KSD, Rev. Amanna continued to exemplify a life of service. His contributions to the church and the broader community will long be remembered, not only for the years of service he rendered but for the sincerity, humility, and grace with which he carried out his mission. His legacy is one of devotion—both to God and to the countless people he shepherded over the years.

Rev. Amanna lived by the words of 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” His unwavering belief in Christ was evident in all aspects of his life. He fought life’s battles with faith, endured trials with courage, and ultimately finished his race, leaving behind a testimony of steadfast dedication to God’s calling. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, yet we take solace in knowing that he is now in the arms of the Lord he so faithfully served.

The mortal remains of Rev. John J. Amanna will be brought to his residence, “Shawn Villa,” located at Kadri Mission Compound, Coconut Garden, Kankanady Post, Mangalore, on 28th September 2024 at 12:00 PM. Family, friends, and well-wishers are invited to gather at the residence to pay their respects and celebrate his life. The funeral cortege will leave the residence at 3:00 PM and proceed to CSI Shanti Cathedral, Balmatta, Mangalore, where a memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM to honor his life and legacy. Following the service, Rev. Amanna will be laid to rest at Gorigudda Cemetery at 5:00 PM.

As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pastor, we reflect on the immense impact Rev. Amanna had on all of us. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones, his congregation, and all those whose lives he touched.

Obituary for Mr. Sudhir Devaprasad Amanna
16th March 1969 – 24th September 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Sudhir Devaprasad Amanna, who was called to be with the Lord on 24th September 2024 at the age of 55. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret Gladis Amanna and the treasured son of Mr. Manohar Amanna and Mrs. Gladis Amanna.

Sudhir was known for his kind heart, unwavering faith, and his strong ties to the community. He was a dedicated member of CSI Shanthi Cathedral, Balmatta, where he found spiritual fulfillment and shared his faith with others. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

The mortal remains of Mr. Sudhir Devaprasad Amanna will be brought to his residence, “Amanna Cote,” located behind Prasad Apartment, Bendoor Well, Kankanady, Mangalore, on 25th September 2024 at 2:00 PM. This will provide an opportunity for friends and family to gather and pay their final respects to a man who touched many lives.

The funeral cortege will depart from his residence at 4:30 PM on the same day, and will proceed to Gorigudda Cemetery, where the final rites will be performed.

Mrs. Edith Ileen Karkada, beloved wife of the late N.B. Karkada, peacefully entered into eternal rest on the 21st of September, 2024, at the age of 83. She was a cherished mother to Merlin Sulatha and Ronnie Sydney, Emeline Sadhana Karkada, Hazeline Sujyothi and Ravi Karkada, Shailesh and Sharin Karkada. A loving grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy in her grandchildren: Luke, Ken, Atul, Shrey, and Shane, whose lives she touched with her warmth, love, and unwavering faith.

Edith was known for her steadfast devotion to her family, friends, and her church community at CSI Kanthi Church, Jeppu, where she was an active and dedicated member. Her faith in the Lord was an integral part of her life, guiding her through both the joys and challenges she faced. She will be remembered for her kindness, her grace, and the love she extended to all those around her.

Her passing leaves a void that will be felt by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. We take comfort in knowing she has gone to be with the Lord, reunited with her late husband, and is now resting in peace.

Obituary: Mr. Naveen Prakash Kotian (03 September 1969 – 11 September 2024)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mr. Naveen Prakash Kotian, a beloved husband, father, and cherished member of the community. Born on September 3, 1969, Naveen lived 55 impactful years, touching the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith. He went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Naveen was the devoted husband of Mrs. Janet Jayamani and the proud father of Nelvin Julit, both of whom he adored and cherished. His family was his pride, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them, including his many years of dedicated service in Qatar. Though he lived away from home for much of his career, his heart always belonged to his roots and his community in Karkala.

The mortal remains of Mr. Naveen Prakash Kotian will be kept at his residence, “Karunya,” located at 3rd Cross, Binda Nagar, Kuntalpady, Karkala, Udupi 574104, where loved ones can come together to pay their respects. The funeral cortege will depart from the residence at 3:30 PM on September 20, 2024, proceeding to the Church Cemetery at Parpale, Karkala, for the final rites at 4:00 PM.

A devout member of the CSI Bethanya Church in Karkala, Naveen’s faith was central to his life. He drew strength and purpose from his belief in Christ, embodying humility, compassion, and generosity in all that he did. As it is written, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). These words reflect the journey of a man who lived with integrity, resilience, and a deep sense of spiritual peace.

Naveen will be deeply missed by all who knew him — his family, friends, colleagues, and fellow church members — but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His love for his family, commitment to his faith, and his gentle spirit will forever remain an inspiration.

Obituary: Mr. James Samuel Jatanna

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. James Samuel Jatanna, who went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on 12th September 2024. Born on 24th April 1968, Mr. James lived a life filled with faith, love, and commitment to his family and friends.

He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Sujaya Jatanna and a devoted father to his cherished daughter, Ms. Jovina Nashy Jatanna. He was the precious son of the late Mr. Hilary Jatanna and the late Mrs. Joyce Jatanna, and a loving brother to Mrs. Anitha and Mr. Gladson Kotian, Mrs. Shobha and Mr. Berty Devadatta, Mrs. Charlet and Mr. Vijay Maben, and Mrs. Nina and the late Mr. Cyril Kunder.

Mr. James touched the lives of many with his kindness, humility, and gentle spirit. He was a pillar of strength for his family and friends and will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his generosity, and the love he shared with those around him.

The mortal remains of Mr. James Samuel Jatanna will be brought to his residence at Immanuel Living, Flat No. 205, Balmatta New Road, on 13th September 2024 at 2 PM. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects. The funeral cortege will leave his residence at 4 PM to Gorigudda Cemetery for the final rites.

Sunil Shilbhadra, a beloved husband, father, and community member, went to be with the Lord on September 1st, 2024, at the age of 64. Born on December 16th, 1959, Sunil was a devoted husband to Catherine Shilbhadra and a loving father to his three sons: Keith, Kevin, and Shawn. His passing marks the conclusion of a life rich in love, faith, and service to others.

Sunil’s life began in Mangalore, a city he loved deeply and where he spent his entire life. He married Catherine, and together they built a home filled with warmth, love, and a strong commitment to their family and faith. Their marriage was a shining example of partnership and devotion, and together they raised their three sons in an environment rooted in strong values and unwavering support. Keith, Kevin, and Shawn each brought their own joy to Sunil’s life, and he was incredibly proud of the men they became. He also cherished his daughters-in-law, Bettina George, Ruby Sunny, and Julieanne Prabhakar, welcoming them into the family with open arms and a generous heart.

Sunil was the proud owner of Shilbhadra Gas Agency, a business he built and ran with dedication and integrity. His work ethic and commitment to quality made him a respected figure in the business community. Even after his retirement, the reputation he built continued to speak volumes about his character and professionalism.

A man of deep faith, Sunil was an active member of the Mangalore Christian Assembly, where his belief in God was the cornerstone of his life. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life, from his personal relationships to his professional endeavors. Sunil was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others, qualities that made him a cherished member of his church community and beyond. His presence at the church, his wisdom, and his gentle guidance will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

The Shilbhadra family home at Twin No. 1, Mission Compound, Balmatta, Mangalore, was always a place of welcome and warmth, where friends and family gathered to share in the love and joy that Sunil and Catherine fostered. Sunil’s hospitality and his ability to make everyone feel at home were legendary, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The funeral services will be held on September 2nd, 2024. The mortal remains will be brought to the family residence at Twin No. 1, Mission Compound, Balmatta, Mangalore, where family and friends can pay their respects. The funeral cortege will depart from the residence at 11:00 AM and proceed to Jeppu Christian Cemetery, with the service set to begin at 11:30 AM.

Obituary for Mrs. Sarojini Karkada

With profound sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Sarojini Karkada on the 25th of August, 2024. At the age of 89, she left this earthly abode to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering faith.

Mrs. Sarojini Karkada was born on the 7th of August, 1935, in a time when the world was very different from what it is today. Through the decades, she witnessed monumental changes, yet she remained a steadfast anchor for her family and community. She was the beloved wife of the late Mr. J. S. Karkada, a pillar of strength beside whom she built a beautiful life and nurtured a family rooted in love and Christian values. Her devotion to her husband and children, Nelson and the late Benson, was the foundation upon which her life was built.

A retired teacher by profession, Mrs. Sarojini Karkada dedicated her life to the education and enlightenment of young minds. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she was known for her nurturing spirit and her ability to inspire those around her. Many of her former students remember her not just as a teacher, but as a mentor who guided them with patience and compassion. Her impact on the lives of those she taught is immeasurable, and her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of learning from her.

Mrs. Karkada was also a devoted member of the CSI Unity Church in Mulky. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was an active participant in the church community. Her commitment to her faith and her church was evident in all that she did. Whether it was through her participation in church activities, her support of various church initiatives, or her quiet, unwavering prayers, Mrs. Karkada’s faith was a source of strength and comfort to those around her. Her presence in the church will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The mortal remains of Mrs. Sarojini Karkada will be brought to her residence, “God’s,” in Gerukatte, Mulky, on the 25th of August, 2024, where family and friends will gather to pay their respects. The Funeral Cortege will depart from the residence at 4:00 PM and proceed to the CSI Unity Church Cemetery in Karnad, Mulky, where she will be laid to rest at 4:30 PM. It will be a time of solemn reflection and a celebration of a life well-lived.

It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mrs. Sophia Shavanthi Vedamuthu, beloved wife of the late Mr. Lucas Vedamuthu, who peacefully went to be with the Lord on 20th August 2024 at the age of 92.

Mrs. Sophia Shavanthi Vedamuthu was a dedicated educator who served as the Head Mistress at the Government Higher Primary School in Jeppina Mogaru. Her commitment to shaping young minds was matched by her devotion to her family and her unwavering faith in God. A woman of profound spirituality, she spent much of her life immersed in the teachings of the Bible, finding comfort and strength in the words of Scripture.

She was a pillar of her community and a cherished member of the CSI Hebich Memorial Church in Gorigudda. Her life was a testament to the values of love, service, and humility, qualities that she imparted to her three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom, and spiritual guidance will be treasured by all who knew her.

The mortal remains of Mrs. Sophia Shavanthi Vedamuthu will be brought to her residence, “Sarah,” in Jeppu Majila, Mangalore, on 21st August 2024. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects. The funeral cortege will depart from the residence at 4:00 PM and proceed to Gorigudda Cemetery, with the burial service commencing at 4:30 PM.
